SYNOPSIS
xpdf[options] [PDF-file [:page | +dest]]..
xpdf[options] -remoteremote-name [command..]
xpdf[options] -open [PDF-file]
DESCRIPTION
Xpdf isa viewer for Portable Document Format (PDF) files. (Theseare also sometimes also called ´Acrobat’ files, from the name of Adobe’s PDF software.) Xpdf uses theQt GUI toolkit and runs on Unix, OS X, and Windows.
To run xpdf,type:
xpdffile.pdf
wherefile.pdf is your PDF file. The file name can befollowed by a page number to be displayed, prefixed with acolon:
xpdf file.pdf:18
or by a nameddestination, prefixed with ´+’ (this is onlyuseful with PDF files that provide named destinationtargets):
xpdf file.pdf+destinationA
If you specifymultiple files, they will each be opened in a separatetab:
xpdf file1.pdffile2.pdf :18 file3.pdf
You can alsostart xpdf without opening any files:
xpdf
CONFIGURATION FILE
Xpdf reads aconfiguration file at startup. It first tries to find theuser’s private config file, ~/.xpdfrc. If thatdoesn’t exist, it looks for a system-wide config file, typically /usr/local/etc/xpdfrc (but this location can bechanged when xpdf is built). See the xpdfrc(5) manpage for details.
OPTIONS
The followingcommand line options are available. All command line optionsmust come before any PDF files to be opened.
Many of theoptions can be set with configuration file commands. Theseare listed in square brackets with the description of thecorresponding command line option.
−geometrygeometry
−geometrygeometry
Set the initial windowgeometry.
−titletitle
Set the window title. Bydefault, the title will be 'xpdf: foo.pdf'.
−open[PDF-file]
This option sets up a defaultremote server. If Xpdf is already running (with the'-open' switch), the PDF file (if any) is openedin a new tab. If Xpdf (with the '-open' switch) isnot already running, starts Xpdf and opens the PDF file (ifany). This is useful for GUI desktop environments, e.g., thetypical double-click on a PDF file case.
−rv | Set reverse video mode. This reverses the colors ofeverything except images. It may not always produce greatresults for PDF files which do weird things with color. Thisalso causes the paper color to default to black. |
−papercolorcolor
Set the 'papercolor', i.e., the background of the page display. Thecolor can be #RRGGBB (hexadecimal) or a named color. Thisoption will not work well with PDF files that do things likefilling in white behind the text. [config file:paperColor]
−mattecolorcolor
Set the matte color, i.e., thecolor used for background outside the actual page area. Thecolor can be #RRGGBB (hexadecimal) or a named color. [configfile: matteColor]
−fsmattecolorcolor
Set the matte color forfull-screen mode. The color can be #RRGGBB (hexadecimal) ora named color. [config file:fullScreenMatteColor]
−zzoom

−aayes |no
Enable or disable fontanti-aliasing. This defaults to 'yes'. [configfile: antialias]
−aaVectoryes |no
Enable or disable vectoranti-aliasing. This defaults to 'yes'. [configfile: vectorAntialias]
−encencoding-name
Sets the encoding to use fortext output. The encoding−name must be definedwith the unicodeMap command (see xpdfrc(5)). Thisdefaults to 'Latin1' (which is a built-inencoding). [config file: textEncoding]
